The METRO (Metropolitan New York Library Council) Referral Card program allows library users from METRO member libraries to have access to another member library’s collections for items not available at their own library or at the New York Public Library.
Consult with a librarian at your institution (or if not affiliated with an institution, see your public librarian, e.g., at NYPL) to confirm that the item/topic is not available at any other public institution within NYC. Your librarian will contact The Libraries and Archives (Ask Us), ascertain the material is available for use (on- or off-site), and issue you a Card. (Note: our databases are only available to New School community members and alumni.)
Reach out to The New School Libraries (Ask Us) personally to confirm the material is available prior to your visit. Once at The New School Library location, show your card to security. Then, check in with the Library front desk and drop off the METRO card with a library staff member.
